morganskye: (Fail!!)
[livejournal.com profile] lezlishae I need to gank that Desk On! icon of yours because I could totally use today.

Last night I started on my wig.

Last night I wanted to throw a chair out the window.

Ugh.

Ok, things started out fairly well. I put the wig on a foam head, tacked it down, then put the thing on my wig stand. I tied down the sections I was going to cut off so that it wouldn't go flying everywhere. So far so good! I cut the hair in line with the counter the stand was mounted to. It wasn't a completely even cut, but that's why I'm giving it a flip. I trimmed it up a bit then set it aside. Great! I moved on to the tail since that was going to be the harder of the two projects. This is when it went to HELL!

I went with the dreadlock look since I got the better response with it. I broke open the bag of white I got to go with the blue. I had no problem with dreading it, however sealing it was another story. I saw an idea online where you wet the hair, cover it with a damp towel, then use a flat iron to steal/seal it. I tried and tried and TRIED. Either my flat iron (honestly I'm amazed I own one) was too crappy, my towel was too thick, etc...Anyway, it didn't work. Ok fine. Let's use the boiling water method. Long story short, burned fingers and a mass of semi-melted hair. Thank goodness I was using white instead of blue.

I see myself getting a steamer in the near future. The other sealing methods just aren't working for me. At least I can also iron my clothes with it...

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond at lunch to get a steamer since I remembered I had a GC for $25 and a 20% off coupon. Just my luck, they were out of stock. So I ordered one in store so I could use my coupon. I should get it within two weeks (ahh! two weeks?!?), but that's still enough time before the con to finish my tail. This is assuming I don't get a bug up my butt and follow [livejournal.com profile] ladycelest's more detailed sealing instructions.

While I was in BB&B's area I stopped at World Market. They're having their annual furniture sale. *drool* Why oh why can't I be in a big house and have a large savings account just waiting to be spent? I saw an over-stuffed chair and a half in suede. I had to stop myself from licking it. *sigh* They also had a dark set of farm furniture. It was a long table and two benches. Soooo pretty! I normally don't like dark wood, but this piece really got me going. Ah well, at least I know what I want when I finally get a bigger place. Side note: I've also decided to have hardwood floors in the main areas and in my craft room. Why? Because stray wig hair is hard to clean up! lol

I want the Buxton Organizer Purse...I don't know why either because I've vowed that my next purse will be military green like my current one. Omg I LOVE military green. I think I look hot in it. ^_^
