Spoiler-free, but there's strong emotions.

Anyway, I finished the main game Monday night. Yes, I disliked the ending. I didn't get the fanboy rage that most did, but I understand why everyone shat bricks over it. There's a spoiler-free article over at The Mary Sue that sums it up nicely.

For me personally though, it comes down to closure. We've been told a million times that ME is a trilogy and would have a clear ending. We were shown characters with incredibly depth and personality. We were given the keys to the universe and told to mold it as we saw fit. The last five minutes ignored everything we worked on, everyone we worked with, and told us to piss off. TMS said it best:

Since I promised no spoilers, let’s stick with the example of Tolkien and use the film adaptation of the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a passable analogy. Everybody jokes about how long it takes The Return of the King to end, but be honest: after twelve hours of movie spread out over three years, wasn’t that twenty minutes of catharsis exactly what you needed? Okay, now imagine that The Lord of the Rings takes a hundred hours to watch, and that The Return of the King ended with that shot of Frodo and Sam lying on the side of Mount Doom after the ring had been destroyed.

That’s how a lot of Mass Effect fans are feeling right now.

Indeed.

Bioware is in a unique spot now. Does it rewrite the ending to satisfy fans? Does it ignore us and potentially lose millions? The company isn't saying, and I can't blame them. They're probably still in shock. I hope they come through for the fans. It wouldn't be the first time changes were made to a game to make the public happy.

I'm not asking for the world. All I want is a proper 'The End'.
