A REAL mini-con?

morganskyeI've mentioned this before in passing, but since it seems things are getting more serious, I'm going to run it by everyone again.
Barry and I are thinking about holding a gaming convention in Charleston.
I'll let that sink in...
Ready? OK. Barry and I have, at separate times, thought about holding a free/super-cheap one day con in Chs because there's nothing else around here. You either have to wait for Roundcon in Columbia, SC (gaming only) or travel out of state to Atlanta or NC for games and anime. There's a larger gaming community locally so we're going to concentrate on that.
Right now we're planning on holding it in late July, 2009. It will be a two day con at the hotel by the mall with the indoor pool (can you tell I forgot the name?). It's a central location (you can see the interstate from the hotel), LOTS of food within walking distance, and they're no stranger to conventions. We're hoping to top out at $15 for the weekend.
Essentially for the first year we'd like to break even. Between the dealer's room fees and reg we should be alright. Personally I'd rather have a one day con to start and then build to something bigger. We're restricted in space, so there will only be a mass game room and then the dealer's room.
There's TONS we need to think about, like security, finding tables/chairs/etc, possible guests, and so forth. Right now it's still a pipe dream, however people in Barry's game club have been asking him more and more if it's going to happen. Therefore, we'll try.
