Decision Made

I will be entering the Dawn Look-Alike Contest at Dragoncon 2009.
After getting encouragement from
everyinchofme and
kuhpuh I've decided to bite the bullet and enter. I'm not doing it thinking I'll win, or even place. I'm doing it for myself. I don't know why. I guess to show that big girls are sexy too, but I think people are already beginning to see that. Perhaps it's because I want to break out of what's left of my shell. Sure I'll romp around in a costume, but I've only entered one contest and that was just a few months ago (to mixed results*). I also suppose a part of me craves the attention, be it good or bad. Walking onto a stage to hear even a smattering of applause makes me feel good.
I guess I also want to prove to myself that I'm worth looking at. Yes, I know it sounds nutty and that I must have low self-esteem. I know I'm not making sense, but ever since I started typing this entry I've started imagining getting on stage in front of thousands of people and being who I am.
I'm going to do a LOT of research before I chose an outfit. I want one that's attractive, but not slutty. Every skinny girl apparently thinks that if you throw on a red wig and some naughty panties you're Dawn. Nuh-uh. What I lack in 'Standard Comic Girl Looks' I'll will make up for in quality, detail, and overall appearance. I will make the kind of costume that makes others want to touch the fabric and ask 'How did you do that?'.
Obviously this won't be easy, or cheap. Good. I want to challenge myself. I want to push myself physically and mentally. I will work for my entry and show the world what I can do.
And I want to do it while wearing wings. ^_^
*For the casual reader: Back in May I entered ConCarolina's costume contest with my Ghostbusters' uniform and pack. I lost due to 1) male chauvinist pigs (not joking), and 2) a general issue of growing pains. I complained, and was made the coordinator for next year, even though I've only ever been in one contest. However, I really think this is a plus not a minus. We'll see what happens next May.
