It's Friday! Woot!

No Rebate for me today. Boo. I guess I'll get it next week like everyone else. A co-worker of mine told me that he got his on Tuesday, so I guess the early deposit bit wasn't a lie. It's just a shame they're not doing that next week too.
We went to Barry's sister's last night for dinner. It was really nice! They made picnic food (yum!), and we had a Coldstone Creamery cake for desert. Omg good! The best part was taking the rest of the cake home. Lol!!
I'm making a menu for the week to help keep our food budget down. So far I have...
Pizza kit (we don't have a pizza pan anymore, but we'll get around it)
tuna helper
clam chowder
chicken pot pie (from scratch)
fried rice (from scratch)
fish w/ side
salad
The nice part is that we already have the makings for everything listed. Yay! Hopefully this will keep costs down since all we need are staples (eggs, milk, bread, etc). I do need some nuts for my cereal, but I'll only get it if it's still in budget. Ugh, I hate being restricted!!

We are in the last batch of DD money to go out so I'm just not even thinking about it for a bit.

Date: 2008-05-02 07:37 pm (UTC)My favorite is to make veggie chili (ok, i cheat- i use one can of Hormel Veggie Chili and add a can of store-brand Chili Beans to stretch it), and then we have chili with homemade cornbread one night, and there's not enough left over for a full chili meal, so i make some turkey dogs and pour the chili on top another night, along with some

SO GOOD.
Also, if you make your own veggie burgers, they're way cheaper AND you can freeze them just the same (that's what the intrabutts telled me anyways). And pea soup! That stuff freezes perfectly, I LOVE PEA SOUP OM NOM NOM!
p.s. Also, please to be telling me how to make fried rice-- I tried it once and it resulted in a HIDEOUS FAILURE.

Date: 2008-05-02 08:02 pm (UTC)I cheat with my fried rice. I use a mix packet and it's goooood. I use COLD cooked rice, and essentially heat it up in a large skillet with the mix, 2 eggs, and veggies. I usually also add any leftover meat in the fridge, assuming it hasn't been mixed in with something else already.
