and a little dizzy...

As I mentioned a few entries ago, my computer died. This left us without either tower, so we bought a laptop. The laptop is fine, but now the last of my neato computer gadgets has failed me. I have an 80g external harddrive that I use to hold the anime that I'm either watching/waiting to watch/will burn to backup disks. Anyway, when my tower died I wasn't terribly concerned. I had a decent portion of them on my ExH. Well I tried to plug it into my laptop this weekend. Nothing happened. NOTHING! It was getting power, but the drive didn't do anything. Fucking great. The real problem with this is that I don't know if it can be retrieved. It's not like a regular drive. *curses more* I emailed Maxtor (the maker), but I don't expect a responce back. It's barely a year old and already broken. *curse curse* So sucky. I don't care about replacing it. That's easy. I want the stuff on it.

On a lighter note, the showing of Howls was nice. The library has its own showing room. While the chairs could be better, it was still a good time. I eagerly await the anime club meeting.

It's really good. It has a pretty basic plot, but that lets you focus on the beautiful visuals. I also recommend Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind.

It's been added. I've been meaning to start watching stuff like this..>Totoro, Steamboy, Spirited, etc....but they just get lost in my queue.

I'm just glad that anime if finally getting the respect it deserves. In fact, a lot of the geek arts aren't really socially unacceptable. It's ok to like comic books, computers, and games. Not as ok as some other things, but they're getting there. ^_^

Thing is, it's Miyazaki and it's distributed by Disney. The execs and animators at Disney regard Miyazaki with the same reverence investors have for John Templeton, space nuts have for The Original Seven, or hockey fans have for Bobby Orr.

When the Japanese consulate in Toronto sponsored a five-weekend anime festival at the Royal Ontario Museum's 320-seat theatre as part of Access Japan 2000, someone in the consulate called a friend in Tokyo, who called Miyazaki, who called Disney...

...and befoe we knew it, we had our mitts on a 70-mm (or whatever the professional theatre size is) print of Princess Mononoke. For one full weekend. For free. For as many times as we could show it.

It helped raise a tidy sum for Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. We ended up showing it five times - the fifth being an extra, unplanned Sunday show because demand was that strong. We sold out every single show. Wonderful way to wrap up the festival.

Yah, it's just a bitch that they had to call Disney to get permission to run it. I hate Disney and I own stock in the company!!
