Good News Bad News

Bad news first, since that's when this all began. When I got home last night my computer was dead. D.E.A.D. dead...or at least on total life support. I have a slight chance of restoring it. Anyway, I told Barry this when he got home (without crying either!). He decided to take me out to dinner (which he was going to do even if compy was working. so sweet!). While we were out we went to Best Buy and ended up coming home with a laptop. Good News!! It's not anything special. It's a Gateway, but I'm not stressing. They've been doing well lately. It's strong enough to do most of what we want except heavy gaming. As for my old tower, we're going to canabalize it into his that's currently under repair. Now I just have to try and rebuild everything. -_-; I'm going to miss my baby, but I also know it's for the best. She was pushing 5 years with VERY heavy use. I've known this was going to happen soon, I just wish it wasn't when we were already down another computer...

I can't stress this enough: live CD's. A good Knoppix, Damn Small Linux or Puppy disk can help you in ways you can't even imagine: get you back online, allow you to recover data you thought was gone forever, enable you to figure out whether it was the hardware or a corrupted file that is killing your puter softly with their song. And possibly restore the thing to operating condition as a Windows boxen.

Of course why you'd WANT a Windows boxen...

Heh, I knew you'd say that. When we get Barry's box back we're going to make some changes. As for mine, I saw this coming a mile away. I just kick myself for not moving faster. My poor beastie was ridden hard for a looong time, so I definatly got my money's worth. I just think it's wild that it died shortly after I paid it off. -_-;

Thankies! I'm still trying to get it to work right. I think it's going to be a long battle. For some reason none of my videos will play. *grumpy* Ah well, looks like I'll be downloading lots of patches today.
