Ok, here's the dealio. We're going to keep renting till early/mid-2008. We are definatly moving out of our currently place next April and into another apt. There's a place further down Dorchester Rd that still in a safe/decent neighborhood. It's a smidge cheaper then where we are now, and about 200sqf bigger. We haven't driven by yet, so we'll see. I really don't want to move in someplace that's more than what we're paying now, mainly because we're not getting a roommate after Tommy. Thankfully we'll have the Lowes credit card paid off, and won't need a storage unit anymore. That will bring our share of the rent from $325 to an estimated $400. So paying an extra $75 is worth not having a roomie. ^_^
We're probably going to get a townhouse/condo instead of an actual house. While I would LOVE to have my own house, what we can afford isn't leaving us with many options. The houses we can get aren't in good places or need tons of work. Besides, I'd rather pay a regieme fee and not have to worry about my roof or yard. Plus the townhouse would be loads nicer then any house at the same price. There was one I was looking at that had hardwood floors, a fireplace, screened in porch, and central air for the same price as a hovel in a bad neighborhood. Added bonus, the condo was a good 400sqf bigger than the house! Not that it matters right now since we're still a year+ away from getting out. I just hope the housing market is still in our favor.
