I haz a sikness

I've been feeling off all week. I think it's finally come to a head because I woke up this morning feeling ill enough to take a super-hot shower, but not sick enough to call out of work. Barry had me drink some vitC powder (which tastes better than it sounds), and sleep in a bit. I'm very glad I'm low maintenance. I was up and out the door on time, even though I got an extra hour in bed.

Anyway, I'll stick through work until my head finally explodes. I'm just glad this isn't even close to the flu I got after Katsucon. By the third day Barry was ready to drag me to the emergency room. >_<

In non-plague related news, I'm getting a Smart Car early next year if everything goes as planned. IF. Admittedly I'll be doing a lot of test drives with it, the Honda Fit, and the Toyota Yaris. As much as I'd love a hybrid, I don't want to break the bank. Sadly, what draws me to the Smart Car is how freaking cute it is. It has personality right off the lot. Other vehicles don't have that. I've had a dull car all my life. I want something flashy. It also doesn't hurt that it's well within my budget and gets 30+ MPG. I've heard a few bad reviews though. Apparently it only goes to 80 on the highway, which isn't a big deal since I don't do much driving there. It also has a problem on bumpy roads. I'm guessing since it's so small/low to the ground there isn't much that the shocks can do. I guess that's why the put some pretty sweet add ons, like leather, wicked sound, and heated seats.

I guess what I need to figure out is if the WOW factor is worth the ride.

I hate the evil plague of d00m that has been going around. I'm almost better though, so thats a plus. :P

Hehe, those cars are so cute. I see a few of them every time I drive up to Gainesville, haven't seen any in my town yet.

Is the Smart Car, the Smartfourtwo? I know it may sound like a silly question.

There's a Smart dealer a few doors up the road from us at work. Keep in mind that there is no storage space in the car at all. So you won't be able to use it for cons since I'm pretty sure you'd have costumes and stuff to bring. And it's only a two seater so that means you can't take a bunch of friends out either.

And it looks like death when driven on the road. Supposedly they are really safe...however, you are REALLY close to the front of the car when sitting in one. I've also seen them come pretty close to tipping over when going around a turn. (The husband was in the car with me and, literally, both of us held our breaths as the guy turned. Then we looked at each other and said "I totally thought that was going to tip over." )

I see them on the road a lot and I just wouldn't go near them. The Fit or the Yaris is better IMO.

Smart car? Wicked. :)

It looks pretty fun, but I don't know if I could do an itty bitty car. I've never been a claustrophobic, but it's never too late to start. Looks awesome for home-to-work though.

Hah they're roller skates! XD The thing I wouldn't like is the lack of space. Same issue I had when I went to go see the Yaris (my mom recommended I go check one out, so my sister and I went to go look, and were laughing at it in the car). I ended up getting a Chevy Aveo. Its one of the least expensive cars out there right now, its VERY roomy for being a small car (roomier than my Grand Am, and that car was bigger), lots of trunk space, very good gas mileage (30-something mpg). I heart my Aveo **nodnod** and I believe it costs about the same, if not a little less, than the roller skates. ;)

I've never been really impressed with the Smart line, mainly for reasons detailed here:

The Smart ForTwo's big selling point is going to be fuel economy. For the current version, the company estimates a combined city/highway fuel mileage of about 40 miles per gallon, according to DaimlerChrysler. (The 60 mpg figure sometimes reported is for the diesel-engine version.)

The Toyota Yaris, which seats four and costs thousands less, gets an EPA-estimated 37 miles per gallon.

I'm also generally more inclined to buy Toyota products over anything with the Chrysler name on it, thanks to years of dependability testing.

YMMV.

I saw a yellow Smart Car last week when I was driving home from work. It zipped through an intersection, and I just laughed and laughed and laughed. I don't even know why it was SO damn funny, other than the thought of "Holy shit was that a pregnant yellow roller skate?!?" Well, yellow cars make me laugh anyway 'cuz I think yellow is like the ugliest color EVARRR. So, like, the driver was all "Hey guys! I really like this Tinymobile, but I don't think it draws enough attention. Can we make it BRIGHT-ASS yellow? THAT'LL ADD ME SOME FLARE!"
But then I felt kinda bad for that dude in the Smart Car 'cuz he's gotta go up against the LEGIONS of douchebags in SUVs and Hummers who are talking on their cellies/sipping a frappu-cappu-al-pachino/yelling at their spoiled douchebag kids. Srsly, there's TONS of those people around here :(

The Yaris is super cute; I think when my car conks out (hopefully a good long while since it's an '04 Corolla), I'll get one of those. But I am SO glad I get good mpg in this thing because finding gas in GA right now is a MEGA pain in the ass. I heard a co-worker go out at lunch yesterday and said she waited in line for 40 minutes, it took 15 minutes to pump 5 gallons of gas because it was so slow, and then that was all she got because the gas station ran out of gas. AND every station I've passed this entire week has had lines backed up onto the main road.

Ok, I kinda got off on a tangent. At any rate, *shakes fist* FRIGGIN' DOUCHEBAGS IN THEIR FRIGGIN' SUVS!!

Ummm...why would you need to drive more than 80 miles per hour on the highway when most federally regulated highways have a max speed limit of 70?

If anything, I think there's people that need a car that can only go so fast because they're NOT Dale Earhart Jr. and they DON'T know how to control a speeding car!
