morganskye: (Velma)
I went back and made my bag properly last night. It was a LOT harder than I thought it would be. It didn't help that I was using large bag directions for a small bag. I had to re-sew my closures several times because the fabric kept slipping. I couldn't use pins because there wasn't enough space. *le sigh* I also found out that the nice thick ribbon I bought in color packs will be essentially useless. They're almost paper ribbons (too fragile), and only a foot long. Don't you love deceptive packaging? This means I have to go out shopping (again) for ribbon. What I have en masse is too thin to be of real use. I bought them for putting into wigs, so they're too narrow to do any good for bags. Perhaps for decorations, but nothing else.

I've decided that if I'm going to make a side business of this, then I need to make hard patterns so that I can churn these things out quickly. Thankfully since I've been cleaning/pitched/condensing boxes to make space in the spare room, I now have mass quantities of cardboard. I'll start with paper patterns, and if they work then I'll transfer them to the stronger stuff.

Hopefully it won't take me an hour to make more bags tonight. I still have to try out my book cover idea!
