My weekend

I made the bath bombs I ranted about. Apparently something went wrong. They didn't start fizzing when I added the witch hazel (which the directions warned me about), so I knew that was ok. However, after I unmolded them they started to spread out. So now instead of having cute golf ball sized bombs, I have stretched out dinner roll bombs. I've had them drying since last night, and they're still a littel smooshy. The directions said that they should be hard after 4 hours. WTF? I guess I really did add too much witch hazel. I was just so good about putting it in that I didn't notice I was overdoing it. Grr! And I really only have enough for 1, perhaps 2, more batches. Right now I'm glad I ordered the small pack of citric acid so I wouldn't be wasting money. I will be upping the amount of fragarence oil I used though. I used 8ml for one batch of 4, but I think I can get away with 12ml, perhaps even 15ml. They may be fugly, but I'll be damned if they're under-scented. Besides, I have waaaay too much FOil. They only have a shelf life of 1 year, and there's no way I'll be using it all. I used one of the really bad looking ones last night. Smelled good, decent amount of fizz, all in all good. They're not ment to add bubbles or anything, it's all about the scent.

I made a pork roast on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Bugger took 11 hours! We had it for lunch and it was quite yummy, but the veggies weren't very good. Meh, no biggie. I just need to figure out what to do with the leftovers. My current idea: I can add flour to the juices for gravy, chop up the remaining meat to add to said gravy, make mashed potatos (or biscuts), and revive the veggies somehow. I'm already hungry! Although, I only have bisquick in the house at the moment. I wonder if I can use that since I don't have flour...

I've pretty much got my menu down for the party next month (don't laugh!)
Cookies (no surprise there)
Star cookie tree (an edible centerpiece!)
Gingerbread house (maybe...)
Cream Cheese Dip with Ritz crackers (remember that [livejournal.com profile] amayagoddess?)
Deviled Eggs (need to find holder for those)
Lil' Smokies (either wrapped or in sauce. wrapped is better to prevent a mess)
Mini Sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, and maybe pimento)
Cheese log
Punch
Eggnog! (sans alcohol)

Nearly everything I can make a day or two beforehand. Really the only 'day of' prep I need to do is putting the sandwiches together, actually baking the cream cheese spread, and the deviled eggs. For some reason day old DE's don't taste as good as fresh ones. I'm hoping to keep expences under $100, which shouldn't be too hard. I'm thinking that 40 people tops will be coming through. Most of my co-workers won't come. It's no offence to me, it's just a social difference. No biggie. ^_^ Besides, if I over-cook then we'll have lunch/dinner for the rest of the week!

I dunno if Tommy is going to work out. He still hasn't found a job, so instead of me putting my overtime into paying off bills I'm having to save it for bills next month. Not happy.

And finally, a gank from [livejournal.com profile] giapet. Man, this thing is f'ing funny, particularly at the very end. MUST WATCH!! After thousands of years of learning, the trojan horse still works
